Loss of Italian citizenship: 1865/1912 issue – Update

The Italian authorities have confirmed that there has been no restrictive changes in the interpretation of the Italian code of 1865.

Therefore the children of Italian citizens who acquired citizenship of a foreign country between 1865 and 1912 by jus soli never lost their Italian citizenship in the application of article 11, paragraph 2 of the Civil Code of 1865: then their descendants, if eligible, can claim the Italian jure sanguinis citizenship.

After monitoring the behavior of the Italian Consulates abroad, we can conclude that this restrictive interpretation of the Italian Code of 1865 is no longer pursued.
